The man worked a simple job, his own job. He’d turned his own garage into a laboratory dedicated to researching the ingenuities of animal life forms. Many considered the guy a nut job because, he wasn’t realistically earning any money, his so called research was not bought by anyone, so the man was more or less broke and pitiable. At least, thats what the world thought about him. Anubis wasn’t exactly a normal nerd wasting his life away. He was special. When the call came though, he wasn’t particularly keen on answering, because dealings with @Occult usually only meant trouble.

Reluctantly though Anubis agreed to meet him, because the Occultist had money, and paid handsomely for services. “Which cult?” He wondered and “boat”? There was only one thing that went buy that name, a trans dimensional gateway that could be used to go to places. Anubis busied himself around the lab, trying to finish as much of his work that he could before the man’s arrival.

Traveling by ley line, the Occultist returned to his home only an hour after his excursion. He'd removed his armor, shaved, and dressed, before heading out. With him, he brought his 'pet,' a Greater Demon he'd bound into the form of a feline. It didn't quite look natural,
as its essence had changed the form it was bound into, but it remained his loyal companion. The true name of the animal was semi-unpronounceable so he truncated it to 'Maia.'

They got into his car, an old model if there ever was one, and began the drive to Anubis' lab. On the passenger seat the 'cat' sat, and in the backseat a large sack rested. His payment for Anu.

They arrived quickly, and the Occultist disembarked, his companion following. The bag wasn't particularly heavy, so he simply carried it upon to Anu's door, and rang the doorbell once.

Spoiler:

At the doorbell rung, Anu sighed. Really?! He thought. By this point, Anubis would've presumed the Occultist would've learned how to operate around his house, and having visited him more than enough times, the Occultist was expected to know how to reach the Garage, that happened to be reachable by going around the bloody house. He sighed, getting up and out of his chair, before leaving to greet the Occultist.

"Come on in," Anu opened the front door for the Occultist who looked extremely handsome, and his weird pet, something Anubis never liked. Anubis is who you would call a paranormal inventor, someone with a knack for building things. If you needed an alarm system that could warn you of ghosts, demons or even angels, then Anu was certainly the guy to for, his workstation was small and not many people knew about him, but for those few that did, they would definitely know how incredibly talented this young man was.

That thought wasn't even Anu's ace skill, which he has become famous for. He actually had something of a unique ability, call it divination. Using just a name, Anu was able to track down entire operations, whereabouts and accurate details of that particular given that the name itself was unique. Now in Occultist's case, he wanted information on some particular cult. All the Occultist would need to provide Anu, in this case, would be a name, the name of the cult, one of its leaders or something that accurately described what he was looking for, and Anubis will take care of the rest of the details.

Anu sat on the sofa in his living room, gesturing to the one across from him for the Occultist to sit down. "So tell me about this Cult that you are looking for,"

"Thank you for seeing me," the Occultist said, as he entered. "I assure you, I wouldn't have called if the situation wasn't important."

Anubis was many-talented, and the mystic was glad to be able to make use of his services. While someone like a Supreme might be able to master hundreds of specialties and disciplines themselves, the Occultist was limited to but a few. Thus, he had people like Anubis, for divination, and other specialists for similar things.

"The cult is an interesting case. They baited me into a trap, yesterday, but fled as soon as I escaped. I don't know much more about them than that they worship some kind of 'goddess,' but that could refer to any number of groups." As he spoke, the Occultist took a notebook from his jacket, and opened to a blank page. "What I can do, however, is show you the face of their leader, or at least the one who addressed me." With that, huge began to sketch, a simple spell allowing him to translate his memory of the cultist's face into art. It wouldn't quote be photorealistic, but detailed enough for a skilled divine to use.

The man always said he wouldn't come. always. The seventh time he'd come knocking on my door asking for some kind of favor and seven times he said the exact same thing to me before starting. Makes me wonder if he really means it if he would really not come to me if something wasn't important, which by extension means he was an important person. That made Anubis happy. He was an important asset to the man called Occultist. And he paid well, this was perhaps the most important detail of their interactions.

Divining was no easy feat. It was the extrinsic ability to read the weavings of the universe, fate, and life itself. He'd no idea why he had this specific ability, unfortunately for him, the ability didn't seem to work on him, as though he himself was simply a mirror that can guide the world in its twists and turns. Knowledge of someone or something was an extremely basic facade of Anu's divinity, the fun begins when he actually gets serious. There was a reason why many planes of reality simply referred to him as Vengeance. He waited for the sketch to be finished, before taking it out of the Occultist's hand, and looked at it.

The revelation was near instant. A flash of his eyes and Anu knew. The details on the sketch combined with the fact that he belonged to a cult were not that hard to find. "You are looking for a cult called the Coming of the Seamstress. They are a cult that worships an extra-dimensional deity known as the Spider Goddess, or... the Seamstress. By having me divine about her, it means now she too knows about me and... you. She is unlike anything you have ever faced Occultist, powerful, and older than our universe. Fortunately for you, she's unable to come to this dimension of ours...which is where this cult comes in. They are searching for an Avatar for the goddess to infiltrate this universe with. But the good news is...as long as you are able to kill her sons these so-called Bodkin, you might be ablel to delay her coming by a few million years," It was never uncovered how Anubis was able to gain the knowledge of life that he is able to gain through simple divinities, even as far as uncovering truths about beings of universal scale, but speculation goes around that Anubis is somehow related to a mystical source of knowledge known as the Book of Infinity, something that supposedly contains everything that exists and will come to exist, or has existed in the past. He truly is a gem that powerful beings would kill over for, but has somehow managed to remain hidden and safe on Earth.

Although perhaps, this interaction has made Anubis vulnerable, known at least to the Spider Goddess. Anubis knew his life was now in danger, and he must find ways to avert the danger to his life, and that has made the corporation and helping the Occultist all the more crucial to his wellbeing.

The Metropolitan Mage sat back and waited for Anubis to finish his divination. When it was done, he leaned in and listened closely. His eyes widened slightly when the diviner mentioned that the goddess could find them, even through this simple divination. He let Anubis finish, and then collected his thoughts.

"That's very helpful, Anu. Actionable intelligence is always better than cryptic nonsense. That's why I go to you, and not some other oracle."

The mage made sure to note down what he heard about the Seamstress, and her followers, especially the Bodkin. He'd had encounters with metaphysical beings before, though only tangentially, and he'd never dared to directly defy the will of one.

Then he remembered something else the diviner had said. About the goddess becoming aware of their attempts to find her.

"If she's been made aware of you, that means you're in danger. I don't fear for myself, but there's only so much you can do against the armies of a goddess... perhaps you should come and stay with me. My home is well-protected, and it'd only be until I track down these... 'Bodkin.'"

The Occultist massaged his temples, suddenly feeling ten years older. He took the bag he'd brought with him, and placed it on the table.

"Either way, your payment."

Business is after all business. Anubis took the payment with a chuckle and quickly set it aside without bothering to check. The Occultist was a trustworthy fellow in that regard, never misses on payments, though maybe, he ended up divining more than was strictly on the money.

"Yeah, that goddess would no doubt try to apprehend me, or have me killed for all I know," Anubis sighed. He hadn't encountered such a dangerous entity before in his life. "Let's go to," He said, getting up. There was no time to waste. Life was far more important than worldly belongings. According to what he now knew, the bodkin was transcendent creatures that can cross space/time in an instant if they wanted to. His home was no longer safe.
